The XIV Salon of Cacao and Chocolate in Peru, which took place from 13th to 16th July, was a resounding success with the active participation of the Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) as an institutional sponsor.

The event showcased the chococate industry's offer and promoted the cultural, economic importance of cocoa and chocolate in Peru. The event featured masterful demonstrations, cultural presentations, and educational activities.

During the V Latin American Forum, SIPPO played a significant role in the organising committee, where the team analysed the commercial trends of Peruvian cacao and explored new opportunities in the market, including sustainable production practices and cacao sector regulations. Besides highlighting the importance of sustainability in the cocoa and chocolate trade, they addressed the environmental issue of deforestation, highlighting agroforestation as a sustainable technique for production.

A fundamental part of the event was the business matchmaking session, which brought together important international buyers from countries such as Germany, Argentina, the United States, Hungary, Poland, France, Mexico, the Netherlands, Switzerland, and New Zealand. These buyers met with 38 Peruvian export companies, primarily from the cocoa sector, representing various regions of the country. These negoatiations will further strengthen the cacao industry in Peru and promoting its sustainable development.

Since 2017 implemented by Swisscontact, SIPPO is the Swiss trade promotion programme for international economic development and is sponsored by SECO, the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs.

Swiss Import Promotion Programme
The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) within the framework of its economic development cooperation. The programme has been implemented by Swisscontact since 2017 and is now in phase 2 (2021-2025).

The overall objective of SIPPO is to integrate developing and transition countries into world trade. In a facilitation role, SIPPO advises and supports so-called Business Support Organisations (BSOs) in 12 partner countries.
