Uttoron organises Training of Trainers (ToT) on Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A)

Uttoron project recently conducted a five-day long (12-16 September 2020) Training of Trainers (ToT) in Sylhet on Competency Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) for the instructors from partner Training Service Providers (TSPs). Kazi Mohua Momtaz, UNO, Sylhet Sadar Upazilla, was present at the event as the Chief Guest on the closing day.

The objective of this ToT was to enhance the capacity of the instructors to provide quality training following competency standard. Total 9 instructors for Electrical Installation and Maintenance, General Finishing Operation, Machinist, and Welding trades, 3 supervisors from two partner TSPs namely UCEP Bangladesh and TMSS and 1 project staff participated in this event.  Two facilitators from Continuing Education Center (CEC) facilitated the event. During the event, participants were trained on various topics such as Competency Based Training (CBT) approach, task analysis of a job function, development of training delivery and session plan, Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) issues, effective communication, inclusivity and assessment of trainees. In addition, the participants were also oriented on the TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) system in Bangladesh, National Skills development policy (NSDP) and different levels of NTVQF (National Technical and Vocational Qualifications Framework). At the end of the event, Chief guest-Kazi Mohua Momtaz handed over certificates to the participants of the ToT workshop. Appreciating the effort of providing employment through technical training, she said, such activities are crucial for achieving the mission 2021 of the Bangladesh Government.  She called on the participants to play their due role in improving the socio-economic status of the youths by eliminating unemployment from the country by utilising the knowledge from the workshop.

Uttoron-skills for better life is a skills development project that supports the youths by providing training on trades which are currently in demand in the industry and facilitate job placement for the training participants. It is funded by Chevron under its Bangladesh Partnership Initiative (BPI) and implemented by Swisscontact. After successfully providing skills training to over 1400 trainees and placing 70% of them in employment, Chevron extended the project for another three years (2019-2022) to continue this development momentum. In phase-II, Uttoron will be working in 25 Unions, 3 Municipalities and 1 City Corporation in Habiganj, Moulavibazar and Sylhet. In addition to Sylhet division, the project will also be working in Dhaka region in the second phase.
