Swisscontact Bangladesh Hosts P-IMA Report Validation Workshop in Collaboration with STDF, Prioritising SPS Investments for Market Access in Horticulture and Fisheries

Swisscontact Bangladesh organised a validation workshop on 24th November 2023 at the Ballroom, Crowne Plaza Hotel, presenting the findings of the Prioritising Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Investments for Market Access (P-IMA) report. The event featured opening remarks by Fazle Razik, moderation by Sakib Khaled, and a presentation by P-IMA expert Spencer Henson, illustrating the findings from the implementation of the P-IMA framework. Participants from the public and private sectors in horticulture, trade, and agriculture engaged in discussions aimed at obtaining expert suggestions, validating the report's findings, and addressing identified concerns.

Swisscontact Bangladesh, with support from the Standards and Trade Development Facility (STDF), used the P-IMA framework to identify and prioritise SPS issues in the horticulture and fisheries sub-sectors. The objective of the workshop was to critically examine and validate the findings from the study conducted for the prioritisation. The study synthesised conclusions from consultative discussions and utilised multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) to prioritise interventions. This analytical approach resulted in targeted guidelines aimed at facilitating market entry for selected products within the horticulture and fisheries industry.

A moderated Q&A session followed the presentation, seeking participant input on the findings and report structure to enhance understanding of the P-IMA approach in the context of Bangladesh's horticulture and fisheries sectors. The workshop concluded with remarks from Swisscontact Team Leader Fazle Razik, emphasising the significance of ongoing collaboration and thorough research in advancing market access in the targeted sectors.

Based on the findings from the study and the validation workshop, Swisscontact Bangladesh is finalising the study report which will be shared with relevant public and private stakeholders for future decision making.
