The collaboration between Swisscontact’s PROGRESS project, BGMEA, and Sustainability Nexus Ltd. (SusNex) marks an important step in establishing a strong sustainability reporting culture within Bangladesh's RMG industry, positioning it to thrive in a globally competitive market driven by ESG standards.

The global shift towards Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance offers significant opportunities for Bangladesh’s Ready-Made Garments (RMG) sector, which accounts for over 84% of the country’s total exports. Recognising the urgent need for credible sustainability reporting, Swisscontact’s PROGRESS project, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Sustainability Nexus Ltd. (SusNex), has initiated targeted capacity-building efforts aimed at equipping the local consultancy market with essential skills in internationally recognised reporting standards.

At the core of this initiative is the drive to develop Local Technical Consultancy Providers (LTCPs) proficient in preparing high-quality sustainability reports. SusNex, a specialised consultancy provider, is delivering intensive training to industry professionals. Launched on 3 May 2025, this training programme will create a pool of trained local experts, through this comprehensive training on Sustainability Reporting, enabling them to independently generate detailed sustainability reports for RMG factories.

The initiative will contribute to ensure sustainability reporting more accessible and economically viable, particularly benefiting smaller factories. Moreover, this initiative will develop the next generation of sustainability professionals who can envision promoting green skills as attractive and viable career paths. As the global apparel industry increasingly prioritises transparency, Bangladeshi factories capable of rigorous and credible ESG reporting will gain a competitive advantage, securing their positions in global supply chains.

PROGRESS, supported by the Embassies of Sweden and Switzerland, is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, competitive, and environmentally responsible RMG sector. Its collaboration with BGMEA, the apex trade body representing garment manufacturers, underscores the industry's commitment to sustainability as a core business practice.
