SSRP: Training on earthquake resilient timber frame building construction techniques

Skills for Safe Reconstruction Project (SSRP) in Sindhuli district is delivering 7 day's skills upgrading training on earthquake resilient timber frame building construction techniques to 120 construction carpenters. In absence of training packages for construction carpenters, SSRP took the initiation to develop training curriculum that incorporates structural principles as specified for earthquake resiliency. The need of this training was identified by SSRP in collaboration with National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Sindhuli. It was realized that there was problem for house owners to build timber houses for shortage of skilled workers and there were number of noncompliance issues.  District stakeholders and local government authorities are also very positive towards this effort of SSRP to improve noncompliance issues and support house owners to build timber houses. Mr. Prabhakar Lal Karn ,Project Chief of District Level Project Implementation Unit of NRA in Sindhuli in a training visit stated: "There are thousands of house owners in the district who have not started reconstruction also we are facing numerous issues of technical errors, we are thankful to SSRP for this innovative work and we hope the trainings will contribute a lot to Sindhuli for safer housing."

It is expected that this training package will smoothen reconstruction of timber frame houses and support in overall reconstruction process of Sindhuli. SSRP has already completed training for 1660 new workers and 900 existing workers in earthquake resilient mason training in Sindhuli district.
