Dhaka, June 5th, 2023 – members from the PROGRESS project and the Embassy of Sweden have come together to commemorate the 50th anniversary of International Environment Day. The event, held at the Leed Certified Green Factory Everbright Sweater Limited in Dhaka, focused on the theme of "Beating Plastic Pollution and Greening Our Factory".

Mr. Ikramul H. Sohel, National Programme Officer at the Embassy of Sweden, honored the occasion by attending the celebrations at Everbright Sweater Ltd. The event featured insightful speeches by Kazy Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, South Asia Regional Sustainability Manager at Lindex; Ms. Ishrat Fatema, Team Leader - PROGRESS, Swisscontact; and Mr. Shihab Quadir, Managing Director at Everbright Sweater Limited.

Around 50 attendees, including representatives from international non-governmental organisations, factory management, and private companies, gathered to demonstrate their commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability.

Engaging activities such as short clips on the importance of ‘sustainable fashion practices’ were screened to spark discussions on implementing green practices at both personal and professional levels. The discussion topics included green business practices, energy efficiency, waste management, reducing carbon footprints, and the responsibilities of organisations like Swisscontact (PROGRESS), the Swedish Embassy, Lindex, and factory management.

The sustainable technology showcase at the factory, which featured recycling programs, green certifications, and employee engagement initiatives, was a notable aspect of the event. This was arranged to encourage participants to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives and to emphasise the importance of green factory practices in reducing carbon footprints and promoting water efficiency.

The event concluded with the participants taking part in a symbolic green pledge, expressing their dedication to integrating sustainable practices into both their personal and professional lives. This engagement also served as an opportunity to acknowledge the significant contributions made by individuals and organisations in the joint effort to build a more environmentally aware and sustainable future.
