Fostering Collaboration for Better Skills and Jobs: IVET Exchange Meeting Brings Together Educators Across Five Provinces

Between 12 and 13 June 2025, the Vocational Training and Employment Support Services (VTESS) project successfully convened the Integrated Vocational Education and Training (IVET) Exchange meeting. This forum brought together the IVETS’s managers, coordinator, finance, and heads of faculties from IVET schools and colleges plus representatives of non-formal education centers across five target provinces, fostering an environment for collaboration and knowledge sharing.

The primary objective of the meeting was to exchange lessons learned and best practices while discussing innovative approaches and research findings that have proven effective in addressing the enrollment challenges faced in vocational training. Over two days, participants engaged in comprehensive reviews of the current recruitment process and vocational training initiatives undertaken in the past six months.

Key discussions focused on strategies for promoting and recruiting target groups, enhancing awareness of the value of vocational training, and refining teaching and learning methodologies. Additionally, the meeting addressed the importance of providing ongoing support during and after training, particularly in relation to job placement services.

Mr. Vilayphone Phommahaxay, Acting Director of the Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (DTVET), underscored the significance of these efforts, stating,

"The true success of vocational training lies in securing good employment and generating income that allows individuals to support themselves and their families, thereby contributing to the improved well-being of their communities and the nation as a whole. This is our ultimate objective."

Throughout the event, participants demonstrated a strong commitment to collaboration, sharing valuable insights, experiences, and constructive feedback. The active engagement and effective discussions among attendees reflected a collective dedication to achieving the highest possible outcomes in vocational education and training, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.

The VTESS project aims at vocational training and labour market insertion or re-entering of schooling of the main project beneficiaries, who are people between 15 and 35 years of age, have completed primary and/ or lower secondary education only (early school leavers), and are subjected to income poverty. The main objective of the project is to improve the income and, ultimately, the livelihood of its beneficiaries.
