Entrepreneurship Training of Trainers Began in Vientiane Capital

A special program for trainers on Basic Entrepreneurship Training (BET) started on Monday, June 26th, 2023, at the Training Center of Lao Front for National Development in Vientiane Capital. The event was officially opened by Mr. Saikham Phanthavong, Deputy

irector General of Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) department, the respected Deputy Director of the Department of Technical Vocational and Educational Training (DTVET) under the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES), and followed by remarks from Mr. Manfred Egger, Team Leader of the Vocational Training and Employment  Support Services (VTESS) project.   

Organized by the VTESS project, this Training of Trainers (ToT) for BET program will run from June 26th to July 4th, 2023. The training is led by Mr. Tony Campbell from Katalyst, a highly skilled professional trainer with over 35 years of experience in this area and assisted by a team of 108 Job staff members who will help throughout the program.  

The objective of the training is to build capacity of BET trainers to provide entrepreneurship knowledge to BET participants, the BET participants are aspiring entrepreneurs, who have already taken part in the VTESS project’s ESS coaching cycle. 

The training includes four key elements: Introduction to Self-Employment, Empowerment Training, Moving Forward and Business Training, which includes creating basic business plans, the concept of a success cycle, refining and turning business ideas into action, the benefits of budgeting, fostering effective group work, financial management, brand development, and strategies for attracting customers.

The training is attended by 20 BET trainers from five target provinces: Oudomxay, Xiengkhuang, Xayaburi, Khammuan, and Salavanh. Additionally, two technical officers from the Swisscontact Vientiane office are taking part in the program, providing valuable expertise to the training group. All activities undertaken during the training aim to equip the BET trainers with skills and knowledge they need to deliver effective entrepreneurship training in their own areas. This initiative not only empowers individuals but also promotes the growth and development of entrepreneurship in Laos.

The VTESS project aims at vocational training and labour market insertion or re-entering of schooling of the main project beneficiaries, who are people between 15 and 35 years of age, have completed primary and/ or lower secondary education only (early school leavers), and are subjected to income poverty. The main objective of the project is to improve the income and, ultimately, the livelihood of its beneficiaries.
