Cambodia's Small Package Exporters Head to Italy for E-commerce and Logistics Conference

08.06.2023
In support of Cambodia’s Small Package Exporter Champions (SPEC) program, an international visit to attend the NETCOMM FORUM 2023 – ‘E-commerce and Digital Transformation’ in Milan, Italy was organized. The event took place from May 15th to May 19th in Milan, Italy, and helped to create new opportunities for networking and business growth for all participants from Cambodia.

The exchange visit to the NETCOMM FORUM 2023 – ‘E-commerce and Digital Transformation’ for the selected exporting entrepreneurs, representatives from Cambodia Post, Khmer Enterprise, and the Ministry of Commerce, and members of the Improving Small Package e-Trade for SMEs (SeT4SME) team was designed as part of an awareness-raising campaign to upscale small package export capabilities and enhance mail and logistic capacity to embrace the growing trend in cross-border e-commerce.

Delegates from Cambodia Post, the Ministry of Commerce, and Khmer Enterprise attended the event, including SPEC SMEs such as Sela Pepper, Taing Eanghuot Rice Mill, Agri House, SHE Agrocam Co., Ltd., and Sokunthea Natural Rice. The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation team to showcase their accomplishments in e-commerce and exports and learn from and exchange with their international peers to improve small package exports, postal services, and customs clearance procedures.

"It is a good opportunity for Cambodian SMEs to join this big event in Italy to learn and seeking for potential partners to export their products. However, at the same time, it requires a lot of efforts from SMEs to work hard to get into corporation partnership here since the forum is happening in Italy, they are more focused on Italian or European products."
Kim Lydet, , Deputy Director, Department of International Cooperation

The visit follows a series of study tours for MSMEs to Cambodia Post and DHL organized locally to provide practical insights on the facilities, available logistics options, rules and procedures governing trade in small package export shipments with the postal and express operators final quote, real-time witness on the shipping processes, as well as to meet directly with key service providers on sending small packages abroad.

The NETCOMM FORUM 2023 – ‘E-commerce and Digital Transformation’ was then selected to provide international exposure to the selected participants as it is the most relevant event for the Italian digital industry, which has accompanied the development of e-commerce, online communication, and digitalization of companies for the last seventeen years. The forum involved 15,000 international companies, offered more than 100 moments of deepening, and hosted over 200 sponsor companies to discover data, trends, technologies, and the most innovative success stories related to the digital evolution of retail.

"I had a chance to learn from speakers and visit booths related to e-commerce companies, logistics companies, and software development for logistics. I noticed that the logistics sector is starting to develop itself to electronic platforms like Amazon shipping and DHL e-commerce. I will share this knowledge with my team in Cambodia Post and integrate this as input in our plan."
Duong Leakhana, Deputy Director General, Cambodia Post

This year’s forum explored six themes: Payment & Fintech, Technology & Platform for Commerce, Marketing, Data & Customer Engage, Consulting, Strategy & Agency, Retail Tech / Digital in Store, and Logistics, Supply Chain & Packaging. The forum will consist of keynote speeches, roundtable discussions, and other activities designed to stimulate innovative ideas and promote business growth.

"Through joining the forum, I learned a lot by talking to e-commerce platforms, digital marketing agencies, and other technology platforms that I could integrate into my website to reach my target customers. I built networks with many people here. I plan to work in listing my products into their platform, I wish to have my products available in the Italian market and Europe."
Taing Sambath, General Manager of Taing Eanghuot Rice Mill

On day two, the keynote speeches focused on Technologies, Organization, and Skills for the Governance of Complexity, No Longer Just Interdependence, Making Decisions in Complex Times, YOOX-NET-A-PORTER GROUP, Merkle - Gruppo Dentsu, Nexi, and Vivaticket: Payment Acceptance As A Key Element For Successful E-Commerce.
