ASTHA Brings Key Stakeholders together for Upgrading National Community Paramedic (CP) Course Curriculum

Achieving Sustainability Towards Healthcare Access (ASTHA) project, implemented by Swisscontact, organised a workshop on Community Paramedic (CP) course curriculum revision. The workshop brought together key stakeholders, including representatives of the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council (BNMC), nursing colleges and community paramedic training institutes (CPTIs).

On 31st August 2024, ASTHA organised a workshop at Hotel Amari, Dhaka to discuss revisions to the Community Paramedic (CP) course curriculum. Dr. Md. Moinul Haque – the facilitator for the workshop, focused on proposed changes to the existing modules of the existing curriculum. Dr. Jafar Ahmad Hakim, Senior Advisor of ASTHA, and Mr. Rezaul Karim, Senior Manager of ASTHA began the session by sharing a historical overview of CP course curriculum development and emphasised the need for its revision. Following up, Dr Haque presented a roadmap for the curriculum revision process, detailing the recommended changes to the existing modules.

Participants actively engaged in an open discussion and shared their perspectives on improving the CP curriculum. Some of the key suggestions included refining the scope of practice (SoP) for CPs, incorporating ethical guidelines, improving the referral system, and advocating at the government level to allow CPs to apply for the Community Health Care Provider (CHCP) position at government community clinics.

 

Prior to this workshop, ASTHA had conducted an online meeting with CP training institutes and organized a two-day workshop with faculty members from selected institutes to gather feedback and suggestions. Up next, the project will host a national-level consultation workshop to finalise the revisions, in association with relevant public and private stakeholders under the leadership of BNMC.
