Bangladesh

Bangladesh is one of the most populated countries in the world. This poses perpetual challenges in ensuring food security, education, decent jobs, and healthcare systems. However, the large population created an abundant supply of labour and a highly competitive labour market. For this reason, Bangladesh offers very low production costs and has become one of the most cost-efficient production hubs.

Shompritee – Towards Locally Led Development for Climate Migrants
Bangladesh ranks as the seventh most climate-vulnerable country, with coastal regions exposed to sea level rise, salinity intrusion, river erosion, and cyclones. These hazards have displaced millions, many of whom face inhumane conditions in urban areas, especially secondary cities.

GO4IMPact – Improved Climate Resilient Public Service Delivery
GO4IMPact aims at strengthening and improving equitable and climate resilient delivery of basic public services in Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) and Solid Waste Management (SWM). This will be achieved through a systemic, adaptive and facilitative approach to strengthen the capacities of relevant stakeholders including local government (Municipalities, Sub-district Councils and Rural Councils), with the central government and their line agencies, and also with private sector and Civil Society Groups.

Technology for Responsible Accountability in Corporate ESG (TRACE)
The project aims to support the ready-made garment (RMG) industry in transitioning from fragmented, manual sustainability reporting to a digital, data-driven environmental, social and governance (ESG) management system. Through this centralised digital platform, factories, brands and service providers will be able to measure, manage and improve their environmental, social and governance performance, thereby enhancing their global competitiveness, compliance and climate resilience.

Building Youth Employability through Skills (BYETS)
The Building Youth Employability through Skills (BYETS) project aims to empower Bangladeshi young people by improving their technical, employability and entrepreneurial skills, and connecting them to income-generating opportunities, such as jobs and self-employment. BYETS collaborates with Training Service Providers (TSPs), the government, industry and employers to foster an environment conducive to employment opportunities for the target group.

Water kiosks – Social enterprise for clean and affordable drinking water
Despite clean drinking water being a fundamental human right, nearly 70 million people, about 40% of Bangladesh’s population, still lack reliable access. The challenge is most acute in rural areas and fast-growing (sub)urban regions, where polluted land and contaminated groundwater are common, and where public water supply networks remain out of reach. As a result, many families are forced to depend on informal water vendors, often paying high prices for water of uncertain quality.
