Swisscontact recognises International Women's Day around the world

This year, IWD’s slogan is #EmbraceEquity, aiming to question why and how equality is not enough and just. Through our projects and initiatives at Swisscontact in Nepal, we embrace equity and work towards creating a stable life for women.

Even though Mong Sur Sdey is the only female student in a Building Electrical Wiring class, she is motivated to continue and hopes to become a manager in a construction company in the future.

In Rwanda, Swisscontact empowers women through holistic vocational education and training (VET), coaching in entrepreneurship, and mentorship for business development while addressing the challenges women face in their daily lives.

Through the FACEJ project, a network of ambassadors strengthens the skills and develop the resilience of young women in the face of entrepreneurial challenges.

The motto of this year's Women's Day is "DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality". We share examples that recognise the importance of access to digitalisation, technology and innovation in Guatemala, Honduras and Bolivia.

Improving access to digital tools is one of the strategies to narrow the digital gender gap. In Nicaragua, Swisscontact trained 145 female teachers from public and private vocational training institutes on digital competencies.

Radhika Karki, Shakuntala Pyakhurel, Saru Khakurel, Indu Shahu and Nirmala Kafle got the opportunity to hone their skills with support from projects that Swisscontact implements in Nepal. Learn more about their journey in this video.

Kadrije Mustafa and Ibadete Sadiku have successfully used digital tools to transform their businesses. Thanks to training supported by the project Promoting Private Sector Employment, they have found new consumers across Kosovo.

58% of women who graduated from the partner schools of the Skills for Jobs project in Albania are currently employed. This number indicates that investing in vocational education increases women's opportunities in the labour market.
