AyaSol

AyaSol creates a dynamic ecosystem for youth-led solar entrepreneurship, combining technical training, business incubation, financing, and market access. This integrated approach turns skills into sustainable businesses, expanding clean energy access and powering inclusive growth across Ghana.

Concept Overview

AyaSol is a flagship initiative developed under Swisscontact’s Renewable Energy Pillar, designed to build a self-sustaining ecosystem for youth-led solar entrepreneurship in Ghana. Through an integrated approach that combines technical training, business incubation, financing mechanisms, and market access, AyaSol enables skilled youth to actively contribute to the country’s clean energy transition while securing sustainable livelihoods.

At its core, AyaSol seeks to bridge the gap between technical expertise and real-world enterprise. It empowers graduates of solar training institutions and aspiring entrepreneurs with the resources, mentorship, and tools needed to launch, grow, and sustain solar businesses across Ghana.

AyaSol operates through three interconnected interventions:

  • AyaSol Seed – Laying the foundation for self-employment and business incubation.
  • AyaSol Grow – Accelerating the growth and sustainability of emerging solar enterprises.
  • AyaSol Agent – Expanding market reach and promoting clean energy adoption through decentralized agent networks.

Together, these three components form a scalable model that supports youth employment, expands renewable energy access, and contributes to Ghana’s broader green economy agenda.

Background

The rapid growth of Ghana’s renewable energy sector presents significant opportunities for youth employment and private-sector innovation. However, many trained solar professionals struggle to transition from classroom learning to practical, income-generating opportunities due to limited access to finance, tools, and structured business support.

AyaSol was conceived to address this challenge by creating a pathway from skills to self-sufficiency. The initiative builds on Swisscontact’s commitment to inclusive green growth, in partnership with institutions like Don Bosco Training Institute and other sector stakeholders.

Through targeted interventions, AyaSol nurtures a new generation of solar entrepreneurs who can provide quality, affordable solar solutions in both urban and underserved communities, while driving sustainable business growth and innovation.

AyaSol Seed – Building the Foundation

AyaSol Seed is the entry point of the AyaSol ecosystem. Implemented in partnership with Don Bosco Training Institute, it supports graduates of the Solar PV Advanced Professional Course to transition into self-employment.

Key features include:

  • Container-based solar hubs for business operations and community service delivery.
  • Entrepreneurship training (PowerUp) to equip graduates with business and financial management skills.
  • Revolving fund mechanism that ensures sustainability by reinvesting repayments into new hubs for future graduates.

AyaSol Seed ultimately enables young technicians to launch independent solar businesses, generate income, and promote renewable energy adoption across Ghana.

AyaSol Grow – Scaling Impact

AyaSol Grow represents the next phase of the ecosystem designed to help established AyaSol entrepreneurs expand and professionalize their operations. This phase focuses on strengthening business management capacity, facilitating access to financing and partnerships, and connecting entrepreneurs to broader market opportunities.

AyaSol Grow empowers solar entrepreneurs to scale their reach, improve service quality, and contribute meaningfully to the growth of Ghana’s renewable energy industry.

AyaSol Agent – Expanding Access

AyaSol Agent will complement the Seed and Grow components by building a decentralized network of solar sales and service agents across Ghana. These agents will act as the last-mile link between communities and solar solutions, facilitating installations, maintenance, and awareness creation.

This component will extend AyaSol’s reach into remote and underserved areas, making clean energy solutions more accessible while creating additional income-generating opportunities.

Vision

AyaSol envisions a vibrant, youth-driven renewable energy ecosystem where skilled professionals and entrepreneurs power Ghana’s transition to a clean and sustainable future.

By nurturing local talent, fostering innovation, and connecting communities to reliable solar solutions, AyaSol aims to:

  • Create sustainable employment and entrepreneurship opportunities for youth.
  • Expand access to clean, affordable energy nationwide.
  • Promote inclusive growth through renewable energy innovation.
  • Serve as a model for scaling solar entrepreneurship across Africa.
