AyaSol Grow Sensitization Outreach: Empowering Electricians for Ghana’s Renewable Energy Future

20.11.2025
Swisscontact Ghana, in collaboration with Don Bosco Technical Training Institute and the Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals Association of Ghana (CEWPAG), has launched AyaSol Grow, a transformative initiative designed to integrate electricians into Ghana’s renewable energy sector. Through scholarships, tool provision, and business opportunities, AyaSol Grow equips professionals with the skills and resources needed to thrive in the solar energy market.

Building Skills for a Sustainable Future

At the heart of AyaSol Grow is a scholarship program that covers GHS 12,500 of the GHS 15,000 cost for Advanced Solar PV installation training. Beneficiaries gain practical expertise and a nationally recognized certification, positioning them as certified solar technicians. This training is not only technical but also emphasizes safety standards, quality assurance, and compliance with Ghana’s renewable energy regulations. By equipping electricians with these competencies, AyaSol Grow contributes to building a skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s ambitious renewable energy targets.

To ensure a smooth transition into the workforce, graduates receive starter kits and essential tools for professional installations. These resources reduce entry barriers for electricians, enabling them to start offering solar solutions immediately after certification.

This approach reflects Swisscontact’s commitment to creating sustainable livelihoods while promoting clean energy adoption.

Sensitization Outreach: Driving Awareness and Engagement

On November 4th, 2025, Swisscontact Ghana organized its first sensitization outreach at Don Bosco Technical Institute. The event attracted 58 participants, signalling strong interest and readiness for implementation. The session introduced AyaSol Grow, explained scholarship opportunities, and outlined the solar inventory model. Beyond presentations, the outreach featured interactive discussions where participants shared their expectations and challenges in transitioning to renewable energy. These conversations provided valuable insights for tailoring the program to meet real-world needs.

Participants represented a wide range of educational backgrounds, from JHS to postgraduate levels and technical qualifications, creating a dynamic mix of early-career electricians and seasoned professionals.

This engagement demonstrates the growing appetite among electricians for renewable energy opportunities and underscores the importance of continuous awareness campaigns to sustain momentum.

Alternative Pathways Through Solar Entrepreneurship

Recognizing that not all participants can commit to full technical training, AyaSol Grow offers an entrepreneurial track through the AyaSol Agent model. This pathway allows members to become solar product retailers or sales agents, supported by an innovative revolving fund mechanism. The fund reinvests proceeds from sales to onboard new participants, ensuring the program remains self-sustaining and scalable.

This dual-track approach technical training and entrepreneurship addresses both skill development and income generation. It empowers electricians to diversify their income streams while contributing to the expansion of solar energy solutions in underserved communities. By fostering local entrepreneurship, AyaSol Grow strengthens market linkages and accelerates the adoption of renewable energy technologies across Ghana.

Looking Ahead

AyaSol Grow is more than a training program, it’s a catalyst for economic empowerment and sustainable energy adoption. By equipping electricians with technical skills and entrepreneurial opportunities, Swisscontact Ghana and its partners are paving the way for a greener, more inclusive future.
