25.04.2025
From January to April 2025, the LEAN School brought together 39 representatives from Ukrainian furniture companies for intensive, hands-on training in lean manufacturing practices.

Supported by the SIPPO program and guided by expert Bohdan Mazurkevych, the initiative provided a robust mix of theoretical knowledge, on-site training, and practical application of LEAN methods within actual production environments.

Through interactive sessions and factory visits, the participants:

  • Learned to identify and eliminate inefficiencies in production processes,
  • explored methods for standardizing work processes and optimizing production layouts,
  • enhanced internal communication and team coordination,
  • practiced process mapping, value stream analysis, and workplace organization and
  • implemented practical tools to reduce waste, increase productivity, and shorten lead times.
The participants were using different tools to learn.

Encouraging Results

As a result, participating companies reported:

  • Increased production efficiency,
  • reduced inventory levels and waste,
  • improved working conditions,
  • enhanced team engagement and increased internal motivation for change as well as
  • development of realistic, company-specific LEAN strategies.

Bohdan Mazurkevych explaining the principles of LEAN.

LEAN is not just about efficiency; it also supports sustainable development. By reducing waste, optimizing resources, and increasing employee engagement, companies enhance their environmental, economic, and social sustainability. This aligns with SIPPO's mission to promote initiatives fostering sustainable business practices. Additionally, LEAN significantly boosts the competitiveness of Ukrainian companies in international markets.

Swiss Import Promotion Programme
The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is a well-established mandate of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) within the framework of its economic development cooperation. The programme has been implemented by Swisscontact since 2017 and is now in phase 2 (2021-2025).

The overall objective of SIPPO is to integrate developing and transition countries into world trade. In a facilitation role, SIPPO advises and supports so-called Business Support Organisations (BSOs) in 12 partner countries. Through innovative and targeted export promotion services, BSOs strengthen the export capabilities of companies intending to export and facilitate market access and exports to Switzerland, the EU, and regional markets.
