Successful Launch of Digitalization Project at Bhomra Land Port Marks Major Milestone in Bangladesh's Trade Facilitation Efforts

The highly anticipated project launching ceremony for the "Digitalization of Border Procedures at Bhomra Land Port" was successfully held at the prestigious Ballroom of Hotel Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka on May 29, 2023.

The event was graced by the esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, MP, Honorable Minister of State, Ministry of Shipping, along with the presence of Mr. Md. Mostofa Kamal, Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping, among others. The ceremony commenced with keynote speeches delivered by Mr. Philippe Isler, Director of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation (GATF), and Mr. Md. Alamgir, Chairman of Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA). Opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Mujibul Hasan, Country Director of Swisscontact Bangladesh, and Ms. Stephanie Dreifuss, Director Partners & Clients of Swisscontact Global.

 

The ceremony showcased a video documentary highlighting the digitalization efforts at Bhomra Land Port, followed by a presentation by Ms. Ishrat Fatema, Swisscontact's Technical Advisor. The event concluded with Mr. D M Atiqur Rahman, Director (Admin) of BLPA and Project Director, expressing gratitude to all involved. Mr. Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized the significance of the Bhomra Land Port's location as a key trading hub, while Mr. Philippe Isler emphasized the benefits of digitalization and best practices. Ms. Stephanie Dreifuss of Swisscontact Global emphasized the importance of trade facilitation for economic growth and poverty reduction. Mr. Md. Alamgir discussed the positive impact of digitalization on revenue growth for Bhomra Land Port.

The event also witnessed the presence of high-ranking officials from various organizations, highlighting the significance of private sector engagement. The successful launch marks a significant milestone in Bangladesh's trade facilitation efforts, promising streamlined processes, increased efficiency, and enhanced economic growth.
