Drawing upon the commitment to promoting decent work conditions and gender-sensitive policies in the workplace, the Building Youth Employability Through Skills (BYETS) project arranged a series of activities on the 8th and 9th of October to observe the World Day for Decent Work 2023. On this occasion, BYETS seized the opportunity to cultivate a more conducive work environment for the employed youth and ensure the seamless integration of the unemployed into the workforce. The project team visited six RMG factories- Remi Holdings Limited, Tarasima Apparels Limited, Vintage Garments Limited, Hollywood Garments (Pvt.) Ltd., Karim Textiles Limited, and MG Niche Stitch Limited.
Activities consisted of a brief presentation by the BYETS team on decent work principles and the journey of the RMG sector towards decent work till now; an illustrative sharing by factory management on the factory's achievements towards improving decent work practices and their future plans for further improvement. Finally, posters were handed over to factory management to create awareness among workers on inclusive health and safety-related measures. The project also explained decent employment features to the youth in two TSPs- RISDA Bangladesh and BGIFT Institute of Science & Technology and shared posters to remind them of the health and safety measures that are essential in a workplace.
This is just the beginning of the project's efforts towards promoting and ensuring decent employment. The project will continue to enhance employers' capacity to create decent employment through Occupational Health and Safety, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), employee wellbeing and related matters.
