The Building Youth Employability through Skills (BYETS) project of Swisscontact, supported by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is taking significant steps towards strengthening Bangladesh’s agro-processing sector. In collaboration with CEMS Bangladesh, a leading organiser of international trade exhibitions, arranged a pre-expo workshop to prepare participating small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for the upcoming Agro-Processing Global Gateway Expo.
On April 27th, 2025, the pre-expo workshop was held to initiate dialogue and align expectations among SMEs and key stakeholders participating in the forthcoming expo. These sessions form a crucial part of the lead-up to the main event, scheduled from May 8th to 10th, 2025 at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), Dhaka.
A key highlight of the workshop was the keynote presentation by Mr. Jahid Hossain, CEO of Export Sheba, which provided participants with practical guidance on export readiness, compliance, and market entry strategies. SMEs gained valuable insights into required certifications, packaging and labelling standards, and market-specific adaptations needed for international trade. Followed up by sessions conducted by CEMS Bangladesh also emphasised the importance of branding, online presence, and engaging with buyers through strategic platforms. Participants appreciated the in-depth discussion on “dos and don’ts” at B2B trade expos, which will help them position their products effectively for export. One participant noted, “As a country, we need a structured export strategy—buyers expect to see a consistent supply and market presence. Without that, trust and long-term business can’t be built.” This exchange underscored the need for a unified national effort in shaping Bangladesh’s export potential, starting with SMEs. These discussions not only enhanced participants' understanding of the preparedness for participating in the expo but also encouraged them to take concrete steps toward market diversification and international trade.
This initiative reflects BYETS project’s broader mission to equip youth with industry-relevant skills and to strengthen key economic sectors across Bangladesh. By facilitating early engagement through the pre-workshop, Swisscontact and CEMS Bangladesh are helping to create a collaborative and action-driven atmosphere for the main event—one that will pave the way for sustainable growth and global competitiveness in Bangladesh’s agro-processing industry.
