The purpose of the project is to integrate young boys and girls aged 15 to 35 into the labour market in the regions of Agadez and Zinder.
Swisscontact has been mandated by GIZ’s “Programme ProEmploi” to facilitate the professional advancement of 5,000 youth completing the ProEmploi cash for work programme in the regions of Agadez and Zinder, totalling 15,000 youth beneficiaries.
The project will be implemented using a systemic approach that facilitates skills acquisition together with supplementary management training and start-up support for a professional businesses activity.
The programme will support municipalities and regional councils to base professional trainings on local and regional priorities. A baseline survey of primary economic sectors for employment conducted in both regions will guide local and regional authorities in targeting their training activities. A regional committee for selecting and validating trainings supports actors to pilot training activities. Supplementary studies in the form of training needs assessments will identify more precisely the professions that will be the focus of the trainings.
In order to favour integration into the labour market of trained youth, the programme has implemented a guidance and coaching component for youth that will foster the spirit of entrepreneurship in beneficiaries and develop certain aptitudes such as independence and responsibility that are indispensable to launch one’s professional career, both as an individual and within a collective. Each youth and youth group, depending on their needs and motivations, benefit from either one-to-one or group guidance, in particular through steps to formalize their professionalization, creating individual or collective units of production, accessing finance from microfinance institutions and development projects, and creating economic interest groups.
