Welcome to the knowledge hub of the Skills for Employment Tanzania (SET) Phase II project.
SET Phase II (mid-2022 to mid-2026) is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) through the Embassy of Switzerland and implemented by Swisscontact.
The documents shared here summarise key lessons learned from the last four years of implementation. SET Phase II focused on improving access, relevance, and quality of vocational skills development for youth aged 15-24, including young mothers.
Here you can find two policy briefs with recommendations for government and development partners. One focuses on the SET-proven continuing professional development programme for Tanzanian Folk Development Colleges, while the other addresses strengthening the non-formal vocational skills development system as a viable pathway to (self-)employment for vulnerable youth.
Here you can find two learning briefs based on evidence from SET impact evaluations. One presents the reasons for dropouts from non-formal vocational skills development programmes and possible solutions, while the other focuses on delivering effective non-formal vocational skills development for vulnerable youth.
To showcase the achievement of the continuing professional development programme and the youth non-formal vocational skills training, SET developed two impact videos that can be accessed below.
To support long-term change, SET facilitated the development of two practical how-to guidelines: one for conducting labour market scans and one for non-formal vocational skills training curricula development. These tools enable institutions to independently identify local economic opportunities and translate them into demand driven training interventions.
To inform non-formal vocational skills training, SET conducted labour market assessments to identify (self-)employment opportunities for youth in the regions of Morogoro, Iringa, and Mbeya. You can find these regional analyses here, along with a local labour market assessment for Mikumi.
Here you can find competency-based curricula for non-formal vocational skills development, including trainer guides and training manuals developed in collaboration with industry experts.
Flip through the pages to get a glimpse of what SET did from mid-2022 to mid-2026.
