Economic uncertainties in North Macedonia, lack of decent jobs and the evolving global business landscape are constraining SMEs productivity, resilience and green transformation.

SMEs play a central role in the country’s economy, by engaging the largest portion of employees, generating significant portion of the GDP, operating across all economic sectors.

The Project

The Swiss Modernisation Project will focus on strengthening the capacities of the project partners to enhance the access of SMEs to quality and tailored consultancy services. To address the needs of SMEs The Project will facilitate the access of business diagnostics and other relevant support services and solutions that will enable SMEs to modernize. The business diagnostics process is expected to support SMEs in improving their productivity, competitiveness, and environmental efficiency, ultimately leading to business growth and the creation of decent employment.

The main beneficiaries are SMEs, while also impacting on employees who will benefit from decent work opportunities. Key stakeholders include consultancy firms, anchor companies, and business associations, which play a critical role in delivering services and supporting SMEs throughout the modernisation process. One of the project’s main activities is to further develop the capacities of these partners, ensuring they can offer high-quality, evidence-based services. As a result, SMEs become more informed about business support services and more willing to invest in modernisation.
