In the gracious presence of H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly, Ambassador of Switzerland to Nepal, Far Western University (FWU) and Swisscontact, as the technical assistance provider within the Quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training for Youth (QualiTY) project, signed a landmark agreement to initiate the “Professional Development of TVET Instructors” programme.

The agreement was exchanged between Prof. Dr. Hem Raj Pant, Vice Chancellor of FWU, and Mr. Sanjay Karki, Country Director of Swisscontact in Nepal. A similar agreement was signed earlier, on 12 December 2025, with Kathmandu University School of Education (KUSoEd) by Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel, Dean of KUSoEd and Mr.Karki. Also present was Er. Anuj Bhattarai, PhD, Executive Director of the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI), which has trained over 26,000 instructors, managers, and curriculum developers from across Asia and Africa including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Uganda, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, and beyond.

"By integrating instructor training into a Master’s pathway, we are creating a sustainable model that motivates instructors, strengthens teaching quality, and builds future leaders for Nepal’s TVET sector and beyond. This partnership reflects Switzerland’s commitment to systemic solutions that endure long after development support ends"
H.E. Dr. Danielle Meuwly

Dr. Anoj Bhattarai added, “This initiative strengthens instructor competencies, ensures effective curriculum implementation, and, importantly, enables credit transfers from TITI courses into Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes at FWU and beyond. It marks a new chapter where vocational teaching is academically valued and professionally rewarding.”

Prof. Dr. Hem Raj Pant, highlighted that Nepal’s TVET system is undergoing significant reform, noting that this partnership can support the professional growth and retention of TVET instructors in Sudurpaschim Province and across the country.

"We are at a crossroad in reforming TVET ecosystem and instructors career progression. Technical instruction across institutes is very crucial for the fact that curriculum being prepared is more skill orientated. We hope this partnership will be impactful and generate good results"
Prof. Dr. Bal Chandra Luitel

While sharing his views, Mr. Sanjay Karki described the partnership as an important step for Nepal’s TVET sector. “Our partnership with two prominent universities- KUSoEd and FWU now opens door for many TVET instructors as we can create learning opportunities that are academically recognised. We value this partnership as working with academic institutes for meaningful impact and learning evidence is key. We are grateful for the commitment shown by both institutions,” he said.

The programme is inspired by the successful Master’s in TVET (MTVET) course launched by KUSoEd with technical support from ETH Zurich. That initiative has produced graduates who now hold leadership positions within TVET institutions, serve in learning & development roles in IT and corporate sectors, and even occupy Chief Human Resource Officer roles. It has drawn students from across Asia and Africa, demonstrating the global appeal and impact of Nepal’s TVET leadership.

By aligning continued professional development with academic credentials, this agreement opens a compelling path for instructors: training counts toward a Master’s, enabling qualified entry into most vacancies and offering advancement into leadership roles within the TVET sector and beyond.

This agreement heralds a transformative step for TVET instructors enhancing their qualifications, professional status, and career opportunities while elevating the quality and reputation of technical education in Nepal.

QualiTY project is a bilateral initiative between the Government of Nepal and the Government of Switzerland, implemented with technical assistance from Swisscontact on behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC.
