Third Edition of the Recognition of Prior Learning Certification

23.06.2026
As part of Swisscontact's commitment to promoting higher incomes and better working conditions for workers already active in the labour market, we support local training institutions in implementing the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.

Following the official certification pathway governed by the national authority for professional training, ANEP, twenty-one candidates this month received their RPL certification across various professional qualifications:
  • Seven technicians in Automobile Maintenance (vocational certificate, CV2), certified by the Instituto Industrial e Comercial da Matola;
  • Five technicians in Stick Welding (occupational certificate, CO2), certified by the Centro de Formação Profissional Salesianos da Matola;
  • Six technicians in Water Supply and three in Plumbing (CV2), certified by the Centro de Formação Profissional de Água e Saneamento;
  • Two technicians in CV2 Concealed Electrical Installations, certified by the Instituto Superior Dom Bosco.
Twenty-one technicians from various trades received nationally recognised RPL certification through partner training institutions supported by Swisscontact's Skills to Build project.

With this third edition, Swisscontact and its partner institutions continue to consolidate and scale a sustainable RPL system that delivers lasting results.

At the ceremony, Swisscontact Mozambique Country Director Regula Chavez-Malgiaritta celebrated the achievement of both the certifying institutions and the newly certified technicians.

"It is an honour to implement a certification that is truly inclusive ; one that recognises practical knowledge and values the diverse expertise people bring from their working lives."
A newly certified technician receives his Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) certificate from Swisscontact Mozambique Country Director Regula Chavez-Malgiaritta, marking the formal recognition of skills acquired through years of workplace experience.

Tintos Subana, trainer and facilitator for the Electrical Installations qualification at the Instituto Superior Dom Bosco, spoke with pride about delivering RPL :

"It is an honour to implement a certification that is truly inclusive; one that recognises practical knowledge and values the diverse expertise people bring from their working lives."

Newly certified technician Victorino Mucavele shared his experience:

"I am thrilled to have my competencies formally certified; it will drive my professional growth. This RPL certificate allows me to formally demonstrate my capabilities and gives me the opportunity to take on new projects without barriers linked to the lack of formal qualifications."
Recognition of Prior Learning certification enables experienced workers to formally demonstrate their competencies, improving access to employment opportunities and career advancement.

The involvement of multiple training institutions and Swisscontact's continued support through the Skills to Build project reflect a shared commitment to strengthening a credible, market-driven certification system. By anchoring RPL within local institutions, the project contributes to a more inclusive skills ecosystem; one that validates technical competencies, dignifies professional experience and creates real opportunities for workers to grow, earn more and advance in their careers.
