Against this backdrop, the second cohort of the 2026 GHG Accounting and Decarbonisation Training has successfully concluded, marking another milestone in the continued collaboration between Swisscontact Ghana and the Association of Ghana Industries – Energy Service Centre (AGI-ESC) to equip Ghana’s private sector with the knowledge and practical tools needed to navigate the transition towards a low-carbon economy.
The four-day training brought together professionals from different sectors to deepen their understanding of GHG accounting, emissions measurement and practical approaches to decarbonisation.
The training provided participants with a practical foundation in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, enabling them to better understand the different sources of emissions within their organisations and across their value chains.
Through a combination of technical sessions, practical exercises, case studies and discussions, participants explored how emissions data can be collected, calculated and interpreted to support informed business decisions.
The programme also placed emphasis on moving beyond emissions measurement to developing realistic decarbonisation strategies. This approach is intended to help participants translate the knowledge gained during the training into actions that can be implemented within their respective organisations.
The continued delivery of the training demonstrates the value of the partnership between Swisscontact Ghana and AGI-ESC in responding to the evolving needs of Ghanaian industry.
Swisscontact Ghana's support includes a 50% subsidy on the cost of the training, helping make specialised carbon accounting and decarbonisation knowledge more accessible to professionals and businesses.
Through the partnership, AGI-ESC also provides technical support and backstopping to help participants move from learning to implementation. This practical component enables participants to apply the methodologies and tools introduced during the training, including through engagements with selected companies.
By combining Swisscontact Ghana's support with AGI-ESC's industry-facing expertise, the partnership seeks to ensure that capacity building does not end when participants leave the training room but continues into the practical application of carbon accounting and decarbonisation approaches.
The second cohort further contributes to a growing pool of professionals in Ghana with the capacity to support organisations in measuring, managing and reducing their carbon footprints.
For participating businesses, this knowledge can support better environmental decision-making, strengthen preparedness for emerging climate-related requirements and create opportunities to identify efficiencies across operations and value chains.
More broadly, strengthening carbon accounting capacity within the private sector contributes to building an industrial ecosystem that is better prepared to respond to the global shift towards more sustainable and climate-conscious production.
With another cohort successfully completed, Swisscontact Ghana and AGI-ESC continue to build momentum around industry-focused climate capacity development.
The training is part of a broader effort to ensure that Ghanaian businesses are not only aware of the changing climate and sustainability landscape but are also equipped with the technical capabilities to respond to it.
As participants return to their organisations, they take with them new knowledge, practical tools and access to continued technical support, strengthening the foundation for more informed carbon management and meaningful decarbonisation across Ghana's private sector.
