Call for Applications: Cohort 4 of the PropelA Dual Apprenticeship Programme Now Open

Initial vocational education and training

Building on the success of the past three cohorts, the programme has trained over 300 apprentices. The first cohort of 76 apprentices recorded a 99% pass rate in their NITA assessments and 80% of them secured employment upon graduation. The programme continues to expand with the support of over 50 private sector partners.

Swisscontact’s PropelA Dual Apprenticeship Programme is pleased to announce the Call for Applications for its fourth cohort.

This two-year dual apprenticeship equips young people with practical, in-demand skills through a blend of classroom learning and hands-on experience. Apprentices train one week a month at Don Bosco Boys Town and spend the remaining three weeks gaining real-world experience at partner companies—graduating work-ready for employment or self-employment.

This is a fully private sector-led programme where companies play a key role in selection and cover the school fees. PropelA is part of our mission to bridge the skills gap in the construction industry (electrical and plumbing trades), while promoting youth employment in Kenya.

Applications are open until 3rd August 2025. Young Kenyans aged 18–24, residing in Nairobi County, with a minimum KCSE grade of D+ and a passion for electrical or plumbing trades are encouraged to apply!

"I encourage all young people to apply for the upcoming Cohort 4 of the PropelA program, it’s truly a life-changing opportunity. As a beneficiary, I have been deeply empowered, especially as a young woman. Through the program, I gained valuable technical and soft skills that helped me secure employment as a skilled technician at Trident Plumbers Ltd. Today, I’m proud to support myself and contribute financially to my family thanks to this programme."
Benta Akinyi, PropelA Cohort 1 Graduate

The project is funded by the Hilti Foundation and Geberit AG and implemented by Swisscontact. It is a part of Swisscontact’s Development Programme, which is co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
