Protecting the environment is often seen as the responsibility of governments, conservation organisations or local communities. However, lasting impact is achieved when everyone contributes. Recognising this, the Swisscontact in Cambodia Green Office team recently organised a charity and tree-planting event at the Sre Ampil Waterfall Ecotourism Community as part of the initiative.
Through tree planting and community engagement, participants helped preserve natural resources and strengthen the connection between people and nature. This shared effort reflects the belief that sustainable change is possible when organisations, communities and individuals work together towards a common goal.
A green office beyond the workplace
In Cambodia, Swisscontact has been actively promoting its Green Office Initiative. This internal effort encourages environmentally responsible workplace practices and efficient use of resources and engages staff in social and environmental activities. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to sustainability in both the office environment and the local community.
Rather than limiting environmental responsibility to daily office operations, the initiative encourages staff to engage directly with the local community and contribute to activities that generate long-term environmental and social benefits. At the same time, this activity gave the team a better understanding of local environmental challenges and the important role communities play in protecting natural resources.
Why Sre Ampil Waterfall matters
The Sre Ampil Waterfall Ecotourism Community plays an important role in safeguarding Cambodia's natural heritage. Through community-based tourism, local people protect forests, waterways and biodiversity, while generating income for families in the area.
Recognising the value of these efforts, Swisscontact in Cambodia chose the Sre Ampil Waterfall Ecotourism Community as the venue for its recent charity and tree-planting event as part of the Green Office Initiative. This activity gave the team the chance to contribute their time and resources and to learn.
