As Bangladesh’s secondary cities prepare for rapid transformation, ensuring that local actors have the capacity to drive inclusive growth has become more important than ever. Behind every successful Local Economic Development (LED) initiative lies one crucial factor: people equipped with the right skills to lead it.
Training of Trainers (ToT) on Local Economic Development (LED)

PRABRIDDHI, a joint initiative of the Governments of Switzerland and Bangladesh, organised a Training of Trainers (ToT) on Local Economic Development (LED) in Bogura, marking a key step towards building the foundation for sustainable economic growth in Bangladesh’s secondary cities.

The ToT workshop brought together representatives from three partner municipalities, along with staff from the PRABRIDDHI team. Selected participants were trained to serve as facilitators in future LED training sessions across the country. In addition to skill-building, the event served as an opportunity to validate PRABRIDDHI’s LED training materials, ensuring their relevance and adaptability for practical use in municipal settings.

Municipal leaders and practitioners to strengthening their capacity in facilitating LED processes through participatory and interactive group discussion.

Through this initiative, PRABRIDDHI prepared a pool of master trainers who would play a central role in the regional rollout of LED training. The initial training aimed to engage over 300 public and private sector actors and supported the project’s planned expansion to more than 50 municipalities across seven regions of the country.

"PRABRIDDHI stood by Bogura in its toughest times, and for that, I am deeply grateful. If its proposed plans are realized, every municipality will benefit from dedicated LED Committees and local representation. In Bogura, this approach has already driven visible progress. Appointing full-time LED officers in each municipality could take this impact even further.     "

As PRABRIDDHI approached the final phase of its implementation, this ToT stood as a vital component of its sustainability strategy. By investing in local trainers and municipal institutions, the project ensured that the tools, knowledge, and momentum around Local Economic Development remained embedded in the local system empowering municipalities to continue driving economic growth beyond the project’s conclusion.
