Laying Footprints in Ghana’s Circular Economy: Swisscontact at the Climate Forward Summit 2025

07.08.2025
As Ghana intensifies efforts to build a sustainable and climate-resilient economy, Swisscontact Ghana is deepening its role in shaping circular economy solutions that create jobs, reduce waste, and unlock green innovation. Our participation in the 2025 Climate Forward Summit highlighted not only our commitment to these goals but also our growing partnerships aimed at accelerating systemic change.

As Ghana accelerates its climate agenda, Swisscontact Ghana is steadily laying the groundwork for a thriving circular economy where sustainability, innovation, and inclusive growth converge. Our active participation in the Climate Forward Summit 2025, hosted by IMPLEMENTERS on July 31 at the GIMPA Executive Conference Centre, marks yet another milestone in our broader commitment to building resilient green systems in Ghana.

The Summit convened high-level stakeholders from government, private sector, civil society, and development institutions under the theme: “Foundations of Climate Action: Aligning Vision, Sector, and Strategy.” It served as a national platform for reflecting on cross-sectoral collaboration, scaling market-based climate solutions, and building long-term climate resilience.

The Summit was graced by Hon. John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy and Green Transition whose remarks, delivered on his behalf by Brenda Laeyea Adiapawn, Director of Human Resources at the ministry, reaffirmed Ghana’s steadfast commitment to sustainable energy expansion, including a target of 10% modern renewable energy in the national energy mix by 2030.

Also addressing the gathering, the Technical Director from the Office of the Minister of State in Charge of Climate Change and Sustainability Cede, speaking on behalf of Hon. Issifu Seidu, highlighted the pressing environmental challenges facing Africa and the strategic importance of the summit.

Equally impactful were contributions from the Technical Director in charge of Climate Change and Sustainability, speaking on behalf of the Minister of State, who underscored Africa’s disproportionate climate burden despite its minimal greenhouse gas emissions and called for bold inclusive climate action.

Building Momentum for Ghana’s Climate and Energy Future

At Swisscontact Ghana, we view the circular economy not just as a trend but as a systemic shift toward sustainable development. Through targeted interventions in recycling, renewable energy, green skills development, and entrepreneurship, we are supporting businesses and communities to transition from linear to circular models.

Our involvement in the Climate Forward Summit 2025 reinforces our strategic direction one that connects local innovation with systemic change, and partners with both institutions and entrepreneurs to unlock green opportunities.

This work is structured through our umbrella approach, which enables effective coordination and impact across our interconnected pillars.

Delivering a goodwill message at the summit, Rajiv Pradhan, Country Director of Swisscontact Ghana, emphasized the importance of a coordinated, inclusive, and systems-level response to climate change:

Our umbrella structure allows us to steer and coordinate interventions that are not only sector-specific but also climate-integrated. The recycling pillar is part of a growing commitment to supporting a circular economy in Ghana one that is driven by innovation, grounded in local realities, and aligned with global sustainability goals.”

He further called on summit participants to transform conversations into concrete collaborations the kind that led to shared accountability and measurable outcomes.
