First Cohort of 2026 GHG Accounting & Decarbonisation Training Concludes, Strengthening Industry Capacity for Climate Action

03.05.2026
As climate accountability becomes increasingly critical for businesses worldwide, Ghanaian industries are continuing to build the knowledge and systems needed to remain competitive in a low-carbon future. The first cohort of the 2026 GHG Accounting and Decarbonisation Training, delivered through the continued partnership between Swisscontact Ghana and the Association of Ghana Industries – Energy Service Centre (AGI-ESC), has successfully concluded at the AGI offices in Accra after four intensive days of practical learning

Building on the momentum of previous successful cohorts, this latest session brought together professionals from multiple sectors seeking to strengthen their understanding of greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, emissions management, and decarbonisation planning. The programme once again reaffirmed the shared commitment of Swisscontact Ghana and AGI-ESC to equipping Ghana’s private sector with the tools required to navigate evolving global sustainability demands

Strengthening Industry Capacities Through Applied Learning

Held over four days, the training provided participants with in-depth, hands-on guidance in calculating Scope 1, and Scope 2 emissions, understanding carbon reporting frameworks, and developing practical decarbonisation strategies tailored to their operational realities.

Facilitated by Isaac Batini of AGI-ESC, the sessions combined technical instruction with practical exercises, ensuring participants were able to move beyond theory and begin applying carbon accounting tools to real business contexts. From emissions hotspot identification to strategic reduction planning, the cohort was designed to support industries in translating climate ambition into action.

Swisscontact Ghana’s continued support played a pivotal role in broadening access to the programme through a 50% subsidy on training costs, making high-quality technical capacity building more accessible to participating firms. Through this collaboration, AGI-ESC is also able to provide technical backstopping and practical support, enabling participants to test and apply their knowledge with selected companies after the training.

Building on Swisscontact’s Vision for a Climate-Resilient Industrial Sector

The continuation of this training into 2026 reflects Swisscontact Ghana’s broader commitment to promoting sustainable economic growth by strengthening the climate resilience of local industries. Through its partnership with AGI-ESC, Swisscontact is helping position Ghanaian businesses to better understand their emissions footprints, align with international sustainability standards, and proactively design pathways toward decarbonisation.

Beyond the classroom, this initiative reinforces the belief that supporting industries with relevant technical expertise, affordable access, and practical implementation support is essential to ensuring Ghana’s private sector remains central to national and global climate action efforts.

Participant Reflections: Practical Skills for Immediate Action

A articipant from the first 2026 cohort shared strong optimism about the value of the training and its relevance to their organisations:

I appreciate AGI and Swisscontact for this insightful training blending theory with industry practice where the concepts were meaningfully internalized. The presence of diverse professionals enriched the discourse and deepened my comprehension of the subject matter.

Looking Ahead

With the successful completion of the first 2026 cohort, Swisscontact Ghana and AGI-ESC continue to strengthen the foundation for a more climate-conscious industrial sector in Ghana. As participants move forward with implementation, supported by AGI-ESC’s technical backstopping, the training is expected to generate measurable impact beyond the four-day session.

By continuously building local expertise in carbon accounting and decarbonisation, this partnership is not only empowering companies to respond to today’s sustainability pressures, it is preparing Ghanaian industries to lead confidently in tomorrow’s green economy.
