Empowering TVET instructors through self-paced digital learning

Initial vocational education and training
14.07.2026
Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT)/Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) has launched Nepal's first self-paced, online individualised instructor learning course, marking an important milestone in the digital transformation of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) instructor development.

Designed primarily for new and aspiring TVET instructors with strong technical expertise but limited teaching experience, the course equips learners with essential instructional skills, including teaching methods, lesson planning, learner engagement, and assessment practices. Existing instructors can also benefit from the course. The course is expected to be accessible to around 20,000 existing and new TVET instructors across Nepal.

The launch also signals TITI's transition from conventional classroom-based instructor training to flexible digital learning. This course sets out the groundwork to translate many existing instructor training programmes into blended or full-fledged e-learning courses. The shift is expected to reduce training costs by around 80 percent while allowing instructors to learn at their own pace and convenience, take the end-of-course assessments, and generate a course completion certificate.

The e-learning course was developed with the support of the Quality TVET for Youth (QualiTY) Project, which has been partnering with TITI since 2022 to strengthen instructional capacity and improve the quality of TVET teaching and learning. The course also contributes to the Quality Assurance and Accreditation (QAA) process of a TVET School by strengthening pedagogical practices aligned with QAA standards.

Speaking at the launch event, Anoj Bhattarai, officiating Member Secretary of CTEVT, announced that two additional e-learning courses - Occupational Health and Safety and Study Skills - will be developed with support from the QualiTY Project. The Occupational Health and Safety course will equip instructors with the knowledge and practices needed to promote safe learning and working environments in TVET institutions, while the Study Skills course will strengthen instructors' ability to support students in developing effective learning habits, and independent study techniques. Together, these courses complement pedagogical training by enhancing instructors' capacity to create learner-centered classrooms. He added that, building on these experiences, TITI plans to continue developing online learning courses independently in the future. This commitment reflects the project's objective of strengthening institutional ownership, capacity, and long-term sustainability so that innovations continue beyond direct project support.

Addressing the event, Chandrakanta Bhusal, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, highlighted the growing importance of e-learning in advancing Nepal's digitalisation agenda. He noted that initiatives such as the online instructor learning course contribute to the implementation of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (TSSP), the School Education Sector Plan (SESP), and Nepal's commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.

The Online Instructor Learning Course is free of cost and is open to participants from Nepal and abroad. Interested learners can register and access the course through TITI's e-learning platform at https://elearning.titi.org.np/.

This digitalisation initiative is being supported by Quality TVET for Youth (QualiTY) Project. QualiTY is a bilateral project between the Government of Switzerland and the Government of Nepal. On behalf of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, the Swisscontact - Swiss Foundation for Technical Cooperation provides technical assistance to the QualiTY project.
