As part of the expansion, Swisscontact Ghana held a sensitization program with executive members of the Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals Association of Ghana (CEWPAG), Kumasi, to introduce them to AyaSol Grow and its opportunities for electricians seeking to strengthen their capabilities in solar photovoltaic (PV) installation.
The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss the growing demand for solar energy solutions in Ghana, the importance of skilled professionals in supporting the country’s renewable energy transition, and the pathways available to electricians through AyaSol Grow.
AyaSol Grow is a key component of Swisscontact Ghana’s AyaSol initiative, designed to equip electricians and emerging solar professionals with the technical competencies, practical skills and opportunities needed to participate meaningfully in Ghana’s renewable energy market.
Through the program, selected participants receive support to strengthen their solar PV installation capabilities, gain practical experience and access opportunities that can enable them to develop sustainable livelihoods within the solar energy sector.
The extension to Kumasi builds on the experience and approach implemented during the program’s initial sensitisation and training activities in Accra, while creating a pathway for electricians in the Ashanti Region to access similar opportunities closer to where they live and work.
The sensitisation program with CEWPAG Kumasi marks the first step in the Ashanti Region rollout. It provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about AyaSol Grow, understand the available training pathway and engage with the implementation team on the opportunities and challenges associated with entering the solar energy market.
For Swisscontact Ghana, the engagement also provides valuable insight into the needs of electricians operating within the region and the support required to enable them to transition into or expand their work within the renewable energy sector.
Following the sensitisation, eligible participants will be selected to participate in the solar training delivered by Dream Renewables.
Ghana’s transition towards a more sustainable energy future requires not only investments in renewable energy technologies but also a skilled workforce capable of installing, maintaining and expanding these solutions.
By extending AyaSol Grow to the Ashanti Region, Swisscontact Ghana is contributing to the development of this workforce while creating opportunities for electricians to diversify their skills and explore new income-generating opportunities within the solar energy value chain.
The partnership with CEWPAG Kumasi and Dream Renewables further strengthens the local ecosystem needed to support the adoption of quality solar solutions and ensure that skilled professionals are available to meet the growing demand.
The expansion of AyaSol Grow to Kumasi represents another step towards Swisscontact Ghana’s broader ambition of supporting a more inclusive and sustainable renewable energy sector in Ghana, one where skilled professionals have the capabilities and opportunities to contribute to the country’s clean energy transition.
