Promoting inclusive economic growth

The project Pymerural increased income and employment in rural areas, contributing to the sustainability of SME's in agro industrial value chains. As inclusive value chain development became a public policy priority in both Honduras and Nicaragua, the program has been supporting public and private institutions at national and local level. This in order to achieve greater SME competitiveness through local economic and value chain development.

The main lines of intervention were:


like improved ovens, protected agriculture and bio-insecticides and -fertilizer. In Nicaragua the project focussed on the consolidation of the beekeeping value chain and scaling up of best practices in agroindustry.

Promoting Value Chain Development

Pymerural has developed the skills, both technical and managerial of professionals in the SAG, enabling them to implement a pilot model for management in the following value chains / subsectors throughout the country.

Results of Pymerural

In its first phase (2008 - 2012)

Pymerural developed the skills of its public and private partners to promote value chains and conglomerates using new instruments and methodologies for encouraging SMEs, including new approaches such as the development of Inclusive Markets (M4P) and novel methods of monitoring and measuring results. During the final phase (2013 - 2014)

The programme managed to consolidate its results and introduced good practices to a larger number of partners, regions and beneficiaries, with its main counterparties being: the SAG (Secretaría de Agricultura y Ganadería), regional municipalities, several universities and technological centres.
