Cacao, vegetables, honey, cattle and fish

Pymerural has developed the skills, both technical and managerial of professionals in the Minitry of Agriculture and Livestock SAG, enabling them to implement a pilot model for management in different value chains / subsectors throughout the country:

Thus they are working hand-in-hand with The National Food Production Programme PRONAGRO to facilitate the respective Value Chain Committees (in which interaction and coordination between the public and private sectors take place) and implement key interventions to improve the performance of each of the industries mentioned. Based on the achievements of these pilot schemes, SAG asked Pymerural for help in replicating the experience at national level in three regions (Valles de Comayagua, El Paraíso and Golfo de Fonseca), jointly with 12 additional value chains. Strategic approaches were developed for the chosen industries, including the improvement of relationships and private or central investment, the regulatory framework and support services including research and development with universities and adapting the SAGs offer of institutional services to the needs of the private sector.

27 value chains were analysed, a process in which 740 actors took part

Regulations were established for the import, handling and sales of seed potatoes (which represent 50% of the production costs of this item); technical equipment and training for the management of this product from the Centro Nacional de Producción de Semilla de Papa (National Seed Potato Production Centre); technical standards for the apiculture sector; new projects for cacao; reservoirs for rain water and irrigation systems for vegetable growing areas; introduction of genetically improved tilapia; support for the Aquaculture Pathology Laboratory; development of a quality system called Honduras Premium; creation of the Inter-Institutional Agribusiness Commission; among other interventions that have helped to take better advantage of market opportunities and reduce technical, commercial and health risks for much of the country's rural population.
