Energy Efficient Clay Brick Project (EECB)

Following a sector based approach, the Energy Efficient Clay Brick (EECB) project ensures environmental sustainability by seeking economic solutions to increased energy efficiency and lower greenhouse gas emissions in the South African clay brick sector.

Over the last 4 years EECB has supported South Africa’s Clay Brick Sector to reduce CO2 emissions by 15%.


Based on this market system approach, the EECB Project – which has evolved from and forms the second phase of the Vertical Shaft Brick Kiln Project (2009 – 2013) – invests in a diverse set of stakeholders within the Clay Brick Sector of South Africa, supporting and capacitating clay brick makers and industry service providers in adopting a systematic approach to energy management.

 

The Project not only contributed to technology transfer on the supply side, but also addressed sector constraints within the enabling environment, as well as the demand levels of the clay brick market system.

Energy Globe Award 

 

The Energy Globe Award is considered the most prestigious environmental prize worldwide with the aim of raising global attention to sustainable projects whose environmental solutions can be applied anywhere in the world and will motivate others to engage and become active in the area.
