GCO Nepal is an importer of non-chemical/non-toxic crop protection inputs. It imports and distributes a range of products produced by Jarupob Manufacturing Co. Ltd, a Thailand based company. GCO seeks to reach smallholder farmers across the country and provide them with information on the benefits of using organic crop protection inputs.
The partnership aims to improve smallholder farmers’ access to knowledge and quality crop protection inputs by promoting non-chemical crop protection solutions. This partnership between Sahaj and GCO will provide smallholder farmers with options for non-chemical crop protection inputs. A significant number of the farmers in Nepal still do not use crop protection solutions and face crop loss. This can be avoided with the availability of and knowledge on non-chemical crop protection inputs. The availability of product options and knowledge on their use can motivate farmers to use these inputs and reduce crop loss. The partnership therefore aims to increase the knowledge and product options available to farmers.
Sahaj is a joint initiative of the Government of Nepal and the Government of Switzerland. It is mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and designed as a 12-year programme. For the first phase from March 2016 to December 2019, Sahaj works in the goat, maize and vegetable sectors, and crop protection and post-harvest cross-sectors. It adopts an ‘Inclusive Markets’ approach, commonly known as Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) or the Market Systems Development (MSD) approach. Sahaj is jointly implemented by Swisscontact and Center for Environment and Agricultural Policy Research, Extension and Development (CEAPRED).
