81 learners under the Skills Development Programme (SDP) graduated in Kratie, central Cambodia

This Programme is mandated by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and implemented by a consortium of Swisscontact (lead) and Inbas. The courses combine on-the-job training (apprenticeships and traineeships in enterprises) with institutional training (implemented by Provincial Training Centres and Women Development Centres).

At the occasion in Kratie, 42 of the proud graduates were women and 39 men. Under the programme they have acquired entry level skills for occupations such as motorbike maintenance, tailoring, small engine repair, beautician and house wiring. All courses are aligned with the national skills standards to assure the skills are in line with the employers needs and the certificates are recognized by employers everywhere in Cambodia.


His Excellency CHEAK Mengheang, vice governor of Kratie gave a speech in which he highlighted the importance of SDP in providing skills, employment and income to young people in his province. This assures livelihood for the families and development to the local economy and labour market. HE. Cheak is also a member of the Programme’s Steering Committee and of the Provincial Working Group advises to the Programme in Kratie.


Other participants of the ceremony included deputy directors of provincial departments of Labour and Vocational Training, Tourism, Women’s Affairs as well as Education, Youth and Sport.


In the next step the proud graduates will receive support in job placement, career counselling and skills required for starting and maintaining a small business. The SDP training is increasingly recognized by employers, many of whom also joined the happy event.
