Taka ni Mali launch event at Mwanza City Council

The Taka ni Mali Project identified new waste collectors with potential and interest in implementing Sustainable Waste Management (SWM) activities.

In June 2018, five new Community Based Organisations (CBOs) from Mwandu, Igoma, Buhongwa and Mkuyuni administrative wards in Mwanza City Council were engaged during a launch ceremony of waste separation at source.

During the event, personal protective equipment was handed over to 104 new CBO waste collectors previously selected from the respective wards. The ceremony helped create public awareness on the importance of maintaining a climate-smart economy. It was also a basis to improve the relationship between Swisscontact Tanzania and other stakeholders within the Solid Waste Management sector. These are the government institutions, partners and beneficiaries who include CBO waste collectors and recycling Small and Medium-sized Enterprises.
