The VSDP is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The Hotel Training Initiative offers courses for 3 occupations: Room Attendant, Waiting Staff and Bell Service. It aims to connect disadvantaged young people with the booming hospitality industry and its growing demand for skilled labour. The training follows a cascading model where professional Master Instructors with international experience pass on their knowledge to hotel supervisory staff (known as Hospitality Instructors). These Hospitality Instructors then deliver the hospitality courses to the participants under the supervision of the Master Instructors. The seven-week long courses develop appropriate skills structured through on-the-job training in the hotels.
Director General U Tint Thwin and officials from Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, concerned authorities from tourism and hospitality related associations, as well as partner hotels and other hospitality-related private sector companies were present at the event. Distinguished guests at the event presented certificates to the proud graduates. Swisscontact also delivered “Certificates of Appreciation” to 18 partner hotels (9 each in Mandalay and Bagan) in recognition of the successful collaboration for training implementation.
Swisscontact has trained more than 2,500 women and men in hospitality courses in cooperation with three and four-star hotels in four locations across Myanmar. By the end of 2017, the Component will reach its target of training 3,000 Learners in hospitality courses. In addition, more than 1,000 hotel line staff and 500 Hospitality Instructors from Swisscontact partner hotels have benefited from training to improve their skills on a wide range of topics.
