The first was in Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State on the 3rd of April, 2017.The Chief Minister of Mon State, His Excellency U Aye Zan, and His Excellency Paul Seger, Ambassador of the Embassy of Switzerland in Myanmar, attended and delivered inspiring messages to young people about the purpose and value of vocational training. Over 700 young people from state high schools, government technical high schools, private and public training institutes, and graduates of the VSDP training organised in Mon, took part in the roadshow. SDC, as the host of the roadshow, supported many interactive activities, such as a play and a marionette show about the benefits of vocational training, and a quiz to raise awareness and understanding among the youth about vocational education and its benefits.
Swisscontact Myanmar has been implementing local vocational training (LVT Component), one of the components of Vocational Skills Development Programme, in Mon and Kayin States of Myanmar and delivering market-oriented vocational courses for disadvantaged men and women in cooperation with the International Organisation for Migration (IOM). The Program is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation/ Swiss Embassy in Myanmar. For the roadshow in Mawlamyine, the LVT Component supported the organisation of the event, presented its activities through a booth display and discussed its vocational training activities with interested participants.
