Dyan Barutzki is a Programme Associate for Communications and MIGIP Marketing Advisor for Swisscontact. Previously based in the Pakse office as a consultant for the Southern Laos brand, she is now at the Country Office in Vientiane supporting with Communications and Marketing for the current projects. Prior to pursuing her Master’s degree in Development Communication, Dyan worked in the Advertising industry for 10 years. Before working in Swisscontact, she was a Project Officer for GIZ Philippines’ Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WaSH) in Schools (WinS) program in collaboration with UNICEF, Save the Children, and the Department of Education.
Kanha Bouasavahn graduated with two degrees from India: Master of Arts in Development Studies from the University of Mysore at Karnataka State, India in 2013; and Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Jamia Millia Islamia University at New Delhi in 2009. Previous to this, she acquired a Higher Diploma in Road, Bridge and Transportation from Faculty of Engineering and Architect in 2003 and various other degrees and short courses.
Kanha has over 6 years of experience on project management, implementation, and facilitating in development sector. Prior to working in Swisscontact, Kanha worked with RLED-EWEC Project, Mekong Institute as Field Coordinator in the Laos Project Office located at Khammouane province, specializing on agro-business and the Rice Value Chain (RVC) including GAP and GMP Standards for food safety. In addition to these, she facilitated and led over 100 activities at regional, provincial and farmer groups/village levels; deliver supervision to over 40 farmer groups and entrepreneurs in Khammouane and Savannakhet provinces; closely worked with government agencies to promote rice value chain; and enabling the environment of Cross Border Trade Facilitation (CBTF) along East West Economic Corridor (EWEC) Quang Tri province Vietnam-Savannakhet province Lao PDR – Mukdahan province Thailand; Khammouane province Lao PDR-Nakhon Phanom province Thailand, and Vietnam in 2019.
With a technical background in Electronics Engineering and some years of industry experience, Manfred Egger joined Swisscontact in 1986 to set up the section Communication Electronics at the Vocational Education Development Centre in Indonesia. The passion to work with people in the contexts Swisscontact does has never ceased and has allowed Manfred to contribute to and manage development projects for Swisscontact also in India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Nepal ever since. Manfred is currently the Team Leader for the Vocational Training and Employment Support Services (VTESS) project in Lao PDR.
Vannida Hubxaythong has 11 years experiences working with INGOs in fields related to education, community development and human trafficking. After her graduation from the faculty of law in 2006, she started her career as a social worker for AFESIP Lao PDR, working for reintegration of trafficking victims. Later, she continued this work with Village Focus International and stayed for 5 years. In 2014, she continued her career in education as a literacy program officer with Room to Read Lao.
Vannida's strength is to provide capacity building in particular for young people. She continuously works in the fields of TVET, skills development and life skills with a strong focus to bring young people into employment.
In March 2018, she joined Swisscontact as Provincial Technical officer for the Pheun Than Heng A Sip (PTHAS) training programme.
Peter Leibacher joined Swisscontact in February 2017 as a Programme Associate to support destination management functions, services and products for the Mekong Inclusive Growth and Innovation Programme (MIGIP) in tourism development.
Previously based in Kampot/Cambodia, Peter now works in the country office in Vientiane/Lao PDR for technical support and initiatives in market development and is the SEC Programme Coordinator for Lao PDR.
Prior to his engagement in development cooperation, Peter worked in the private sector and co-founded an architecture company in Zurich/Switzerland.
He holds a Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) degree in Development & Cooperation and a M.Sc. in Architecture, both from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
Houmphanh Lithavong brings more than 15 years of experiences in finance, accounting and administration with senior level managing teams. Prior to taking up the position of Finance and Administration Manager with Swisscontact, he has been working with the ADB, the World Bank, the Hollows Foundation, Save the Children and Room to Read.
He holds a degree in Business Administration (Finance) from the Khonkaen University in Thailand and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Lao-Japan Human Resource Development Institute under the National University of Laos.
Houmphanh Lithavong is the Finance and Administration Manager for Swisscontact in Lao PDR since December 2018.
Rosemary has 8 years of experience as an entrepreneur in the hospitality sector, and interests in food, arts and culture, sustainability, and community building. She has an MA in Philosophy from the University of Victoria, and has worked for and volunteered with environmental NGOs supporting and promoting local food systems and organic agriculture in Atlantic Canada since 2007.
Her most recent business venture combined the use of creative community financing and a strong focus on local food and drink to create The Townhouse Brewpub & Eatery, a popular restaurant and bar with an on-site nano-brewery specializing in British-style cask ales. In its first 6 years, the Townhouse employed up to 28 people at a time, sourced local products from over 35 small producers, and provided a cultural hub for the local community and visiting tourists. Rosemary sold the Townhouse in 2018 and is excited for the opportunity to work with Swisscontact and local SMEs towards a sustainable and inclusive tourism industry in Southern Laos.
Phetsavart Phangphongphakdy joined Swisscontact in September 2019 as Manager for the Integrated Vocational Education and Training (IVET) Training Pathway, under the Vocational Training and Employment Support Services (VTESS) Project. Prior to joining the VTESS, Phetsavart had worked for Vocational Education Project in Laos (VELA 1), a predecessor of VTESS, as a technical advisor for TVET Regulatory Framework Development and his most recent employment was with Skills for Tourism Project (Lao/029) as one of components’ leader for TVET Governance and Institutional Development. Phetsavart holds a Master Degree in Counselling and Higher Education, from Ohio University, USA and Bachelor Degree on English Language from National University of Laos (NUoL).
Phouimany Phongsavanh is a Technical and MRM Coordinator for the PTHAS project. Previously, he worked for Room to Read and Plan International. Before he started with his career in the development sector, Phouimany was a teacher at Phamueang College from 2014 to 2017. He obtained a Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in 2019.
Sommith Punyathone is a Junior Technical Officer for the MIGIP project based in Pakse. He started his career as a national intern in Swisscontact before getting promoted. Sommith organizes all marketing activities under the project. Previous to this, he worked as an intern for the Department of Information, Culture, and Tourism (DICT) in Champasak province. Sommith began his career as a student volunteer for Student Volunteers Foundation Malaysia in 2016. He graduated with a degree in Tourism Management and Hospitality in 2018.
Joël Riedo joined Swisscontact in September 2019 as a program associate to support the implementation of sustainable tourism product development in Southern Laos. He works in the Mekong Inclusive Growth and Innovation Project (MIGIP) and is based in Pakse.
Prior to his internship at Swisscontact, Joël gained first experience in the field of development work by supporting the fundraising and implementation of sustainable development projects on a voluntary basis in Africa.
He holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in the field of Tourism with a major in Sustainable Tourism and International Development from the University of Applied Sciences in Chur, Switzerland.
Richard is Country Director for Swisscontact in LaoPDR. He has 11 years' experience working in business membership organisations and international non-government organisations. In LaoPDR, Richard is responsible for Swisscontact’s project portfolio in skills and tourism destination development. He is an Inclusive Markets (IM) senior mentor for Swisscontact globally.
Previously Richard has been Deputy Country Director for Swisscontact in Cambodia, Programs Director for International Development Enterprises (iDE) in Bangladesh, and Deputy Managing Director for the British Urban Regeneration Association in the UK. Richard has expertise in private sector development, pro-poor technology commercialisation, and monitoring and results measurement (MRM).
Richard has working experience across Asia and Africa, including Bangladesh, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Kenya, Lao PDR, Tanzania, Myanmar, Nepal, and Zimbabwe. He holds an MSc (Distinction) in Urbanisation and Development from the London School of Economics (LSE), and a First Class MA (Honours) degree from the University of Edinburgh.
In 2015, Viriya Vilavongsa used to be a volunteer at Cuso-Laos as a Logistics and Research Assistant while she holds a bachelor’s degree in Rural and Community Development from the National University of Laos. She started her professional career with Hin Nam No Project - GIZ as a field assistant and she was promoted to be a Junior Advisor for Outreach and Land Management in 2016.
In 2017, she continued her master’s degree in Sustainable International Development. While pursuing her master's degree, she did an internship with Lemberg Children Center as an Environmental Education Intern. After she graduated in 2019, she started working with Swisscontact for the VTESS project.
Latdaphone Vongkhamheng has 4 years experiences in the tourism industry. After her graduation in 2009, she started her career in the tourism industry as Travel Consultant, Reservation Manager and Product Specialist for a well-known travel agency in Vientiane. In 2014, she had the opportunity to continue her education and completed her degree as Master of Business Administration in New Zealand. Since 2017, she continued her career in project development as Public Relation and Project Coordinator for the Trade Facility Development II by the World Bank and as a short-term consultant for E-commerce Readiness Assessment Project implemented by UNCTAD. In September 2018, she joined Swisscontact as Tourism Technical Officer.
Chansamai Xong joined Swisscontact as a Finance and Admin Officer in 2019. Prior to this, Chansamai was an International Exchange Volunteer with the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in Cambodia. From 2016 to 2018, she was working for World Vision Lao (WCL) as an Administration and Government Relations Officer.
