Education of Women in STEM Increases Their Employment Perspectives

Data in Kosovo indicate that there is a gender gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). NGO Qendra LEAP has conducted a study on this topic and on 1 July 2019 organized a presentation of their key findings and recommendations.

 

 

The challenging of stereotypes among girls and their families, which then affect their educational choices, should start at a very early age. It can be combined efforts of the education system, mentoring activities, scholarships for girls in STEM, behaviour change of parents and the community and promotion of role models. 

 

As technology is reshaping the world we live in, professionals from the science, technology, engineering and mathematics can lead the innovation processes that make the economy stronger and more competitive. Education in any of the STEM field enhances the employment perspectives of youth, and especially women. 

 

The projects Promoting Private Sector Employment (PPSE) and Enhancing Youth Employment (EYE) funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation supported NGO Qendra LEAP to conduct the study that is an additional contribution to enhancing the gender perspective in the human resources available for STEM in Kosovo.
