The campaign aimed at raising private sector awareness of the contribution and capabilities of TVET graduates. It also set out to create better collaboration between the private sector business owners and TVET institutions thereby establishing durable linkages between the two.
The main objectives were:
- To create confidence among the private sector actors of the competencies the TVET trained graduates hold; identifying the graduates worth and the possible growth potential they could contribute to the different businesses.
- To sensitize the private sector actors about the role they can play in the local TVET system and demonstrate the importance of involvement in the planning and implementation of vocational training schemes.
Publicity through mass media such as spot ads and DJ mentions were used to call up private sector business owners to meet with district officials, TVET educators and TVET graduates at the different schools where the forums took place. This enabled the private sector business owners to experience first-hand the practical package TVET graduates are offered and the various equipment used in the training.
667 stakeholders, mainly business owners and craftsmen, participated in the 7 forums and were pleased with the outcomes. They expressed their desire to hold regular similar forums in the future, not only to exchange innovative ideas but also evaluate the progress made.
