The objective of the workshop was to review and develop curricula for the selected trades of Uttoron project with an aim that the curricula meet the industry demand and make Uttoron graduates employable. The workshop was designed in two parts. First part of the workshop was held on 24 October at Habiganj Industrial Park where 16 industrial experts from PRAN, RFL and Star Porcelain limited attended. The industry experts reviewed the existing curricula and shared their feedback based on industry need. Second part of the workshop was held on 25-26 October at hotel Nirvana Inn in Sylhet where curricula development and 4 training experts revised the curricula incorporating the feedbacks from industry experts. Customized curriculum for Packaging, Finishing & Quality Control was developed during this workshop. Moreover, 5 curricula were reviewed and adjusted on different trades which are- (1) Electrical Installations & Maintenance; (2) Machinist; (3) Plumbing & Pipe Fitting; (4) Refrigeration & Air Conditioning; (5) Welding. These newly developed/adjusted curricula will be used for skills training by the partner training providers of Uttoron project.
Uttoron-Skills for better life is a skills development project, funded by Chevron under Bangladesh Partnership Initiative (BPI) and implemented by Swisscontact. In phase-I (2016-2019), Uttoron project has provided skills training to 1463 community youths in three eastern districts of Bangladesh namely: Sylhet, Moulavibazar and Habiganj. The project has supported community members to qualify for industry driven training and has positioned them for new or improved employment opportunities. The phase-II (2019-2022) of Uttoron project aims to enhance the employability of community youths in Sylhet and Dhaka region, generate sustainable provisions for skills training near Bibiyana area, and create opportunities of advance welding training for youths in Bangladesh.
