The eighth batch of Local Vocational Training successfully trained 453 learners in Mon and Kayin States

From 8th January to 30th March 2018, the Vocational Skill Development Program implemented its eighth batch of Local Vocational Training courses, which is the last batch for the current phase of the Program. The training courses were delivered in Mon and Kayin states, with a total of 24 courses being delivered for the occupations of plumber, mason, house wirer, rural mechanic, tailor and beautician. These 12-weeks long courses were implemented in 10 locations and 453 learners graduated. In addition, the fifth sales clerk training course was implemented in Mawlamyine and Hpa-an and 34 learners graduated. The closing events for all of these courses were held simultaneously in 10 locations on the 30th of March 2018.

2018 B-SkillFUL’s contribution to ‘Press for Progress’, International Women’s Day

Every year, the International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated globally on 8 March 2018. This year’s theme is to ‘Press for Progress’ towards achieving gender equality, which is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. The theme focuses on creating conditions for transformative and sustainable changes in line with the core agenda (‘leave no one behind’) of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and specifically with SDG 5 (Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls).

Sarathi and Bank Asia Agent Banking Team Celebrate International Women’s Day with RMG Workers

The Sarathi- Progress through Financial Inclusion Project team along with Bank Asia Limited’s Agent Banking team visited Ready Made Garments (RMG) industry workers of Echotex Limited, Gazipur and Comfit Composite Ltd, Tangail on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 8 March 2018. The teams greeted the workers with flowers and greetings cards, followed by a brief financial literacy session and serving of light refreshments for the participants. Some of the workers who had opened bank accounts during the pilot phase of the project also participated. The factory management and the workers displayed appreciation for the effort made by the teams and expressed the wish to participate in such events in the future

Honourable Additional District Commissioner of Habiganj Attends Certificate Distribution Ceremony of Uttoron Project

On 26 February, Uttoron Project arranged a certificate distribution ceremony for the third-round trainees in No. 3 Inathganj Union Complex, Nabiganj Upazila under Habiganj District. Mr. Bozlur Rashid, Chairman, Inathganj union, was the key moderator of the event. Mr. Nurul Islam, Additional District Commissioner (Revenue), Habiganj, graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Mr. Touhid-Bin-Hassan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO), Nabiganj, was present as the Special Guest. Representatives from Chevron Mr. M Samad Chowdhury, Manager, Government Relations of PGPA; Mr. Abdullah Al Monjur, IEM Superintendent, Mr. Imam Hasan Akan, Assistant Manager, Field Community Engagement & Communications, from Swisscontact Mr. Anirban Bhowmik, Country Director- Bangladesh, and Mr. Mamunur Rahman, Team Leader, Uttoron Project were also present among others. During the event, certificates were distributed amongst 122 trainees that had completed the motivational workshop under the auspices of the Uttoron project.

Training of Trainers (ToT) organized for Technical Instructors and Training Coordinators

The Youth Employment Project (YEP) in coordination with the Training Institute for Technical Instruction (TITI) conducted a ToT from 12 -17 February 2018 at TITI Sanothimi, Bhaktapur. The program was opened by Akim Shrestha, Executive Director of TITI and Surendra Mohan Yadav, YEP Project Coordinator.

Locals Making Reconstruction a Medium for Employment

Since the end of the war in 2006 Nepal is going through a challenging peace-making and civil reconstruction process. A severe earthquake in 2015 threw the country back again. The Skills for Safe Reconstruction Project (SSRP), implemented by Swisscontact with Swiss Solidarity as project Partner is collaborating with this project to mitigate the risks and dangers from future earthquakes in Nepal.

The Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP) coordinated with the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population, Department of Labour (Mawlamyine), Mon State Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Department of Consumer affairs, Department of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, Government Technical Institute (GTI), Government Technical High School (GTHS) to organize a job fair in Mawlamyine on 3rd and 4th of February 2018.
