The Local Vocational Training (LVT) improves competencies of disadvantaged women and men in the South-East of Myanmar according to labour market demand. This training is part of the Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP), financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

Enterprise Development Day held in Mawlamyine, Mon State on 9th December 2017

Entrepreneurship Development Network Asia (Myanmar) organized an Enterprise Development Day in Mawlamyine, Mon State on 9th December 2017. The objective of this event was to celebrate the graduation of Learners attending the Entrepreneurship Development Program in Mon and Kayin States, as well as their business development and inspiring stories. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) finances the Program through the Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP), being implemented by Swisscontact.

Job Fair in Hpa-An and Kayin State held on 7th and 8th December 2017

The Government Technical High School (GTHS), Hpa-An and the Department of Labour in Kayin State jointly organised a Job Fair for locals of Hpa-An and other townships in Kayin State on 7th and 8th of December 2017. The objective of this fair is to help job seekers to find employment and to assist employers to find suitable employees. The event is jointly supported by Swisscontact/Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), ADRA Myanmar/NORAD and IOM.

Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for Learners from Hospitality Courses held in Yangon

Since 2015, the Hotel Training initiative (HTI) has been organizing a Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for Learners residing in Yangon Division once a year. The long-awaited event was held at the recently inaugurated Pan Pacific Hotel on 4 November in Yangon. Over 300 Graduates, who had previously received a Hospitality Courses in Yangon in 2017, happily received their certificates.

Embassy of Switzerland’s third Roadshow on Vocational Education

The Embassy of Switzerland in Myanmar is organising a series of Roadshows to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Myanmar. Three roadshows on Vocational Education have been held at 3 locations in the country, Mawlamyine, Mandalay and Pathein. The last roadshow was held in Pathein, the Capital City of Ayeyarwaddy Region on 4 September 2017 in the City Hall.

Swisscontact signs with Lao PDR government to support tourism development in Southern Laos

Swisscontact signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lao PDR government on Wednesday 23 August, to support tourism development in Southern Laos under the Mekong Inclusive Growth and Innovation Programme (MIGIP). The programme focuses on supporting destination development and marketing, improving the product offer in the region, and capacity development in key areas. The agreement offers an opportunity to build upon previous Swisscontact work in the region.

HTI creates synergies with the Swiss organization FXB in Ngapali

FXB Myanmar signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Swisscontact Myanmar in November 2016 to have access to Hospitality training materials developed by Swisscontact. Two FXB instructors also attended the 6-week long Training of Trainers for Hospitality Instructors delivered by Swisscontact in early 2017. These trainers are now implementing hospitality courses in Ngapali. FXB Myanmar is an international NGO and has been providing assistance to Myanmar since 1992, including vocational training. The FXB Hospitality Vocational Training Program is set to provide training opportunities for disadvantaged youth, who only have a basic education who no access to training opportunities. This program, takes a classical “dual” approach to its training implementation. This means that the courses provide theoretical training at the FXB Vocational Training Center, based in Ngapali, Rakhine State, as well as on-the-job training through internships in hotels or other hospitality institutions.

Strengthening cooperation with MRTI

Swisscontact became a Gold member of the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI) at the beginning of 2017. The first event in which the two organisations cooperated was the “Forum on Sustainability in Tourism and Hospitality in Myanmar” which took place at Novotel Yangon Max on 29-30 March. The Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) also played a key role in the organisation and development of this Forum. The objectives of this Forum were to introduce globally recognised standards of sustainability and GSTC’s criteria for the tourism industry, as well as to exchange good practices from the region.
