Training and employment of young people (FOPREJ)

Swisscontact contributes to the improvement of the living conditions of rural youth in the regions of Agadez, Tahoua and Tillabery, by the establishment of a training-system and the integration of trained youths into the labor market.

The Project

The project is aimed at young people living in rural and suburban areas, in the regions of Agadez, Tahoua and Tillabery. Its aim is to help improve their living conditions by reducing their vulnerability and marginalisation by means of the income from their work.

Having started in January 2014, the project initially set about assessing the situation in the three regions concerned, in order to identify the target segment and the local bodies with a motivation to assist, so that the effectiveness of the training and employment services was assured.

In the regions of Agadez, Tahoua and Tillabery, 595 young people, 37% of whom were female, underwent training in several localities, including Say, Tassara, Tchintabaraden, Guidan Ider, Timia and Ingall. Training structures were developed in several vocational areas.

Upstream, identification of new training plans and the development of training structures made it possible to introduce the new area of shaft sinking, well drilling, basket work and simple machine embroidery. Finally, the emphasis was placed on human resources training and support within the plans so that they could pursue their tasks completely autonomously.

This is why the farmers' organisations, the COGES [school management committees] and the agricultural producers' organisations also received training in training structures and pedagogy.
