We are discussing the constraints and opportunities inherent in current developing country issues with experts.

Just as in the developed world, in order to tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges, it is essential that in developing countries all societal, political, and business actors collaborate more closely. It is impossible to achieve global development objectives as articulated in the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) otherwise.

Promoting Sustainable Tourism

The United Nations General Assembly affirm the increasing importance of sustainability in tourism and declared 2017 “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development”. The tourism sector must verify if its products and services are viable over the long term. Tourists increasingly value sustainability and tour firms are paying more attention to their social responsibility as companies. International development supports long-term tourism projects.

A sustainably developed tourism sector creates jobs and contributes to overall development and economic growth in a given region. In many developing countries the sector has become an engine of development. Swisscontact promotes the tourism sector to generate productive employment and new income opportunities for broad segments of the population.
