New projects to boost the economy with qualified technicians in Indonesia, Tanzania, and Bolivia

Swisscontact is implementing three new projects to strengthen training of technicians qualified for the regional labour markets in Indonesia, Tanzania, and Bolivia. These projects support economic growth, social progress, and cultural advancement. Through enhanced skills and labour market integration, people can become engaged more actively in society and support inclusive economic growth.


Visions of a clean future

At the start of the new millennium, environmental protection was still in its infancy. Building on decades of experience in Central America and Peru, Swisscontact launched the “Clean Air” project in Bolivia in 2003 and now looks back at 15 years of successful project implementation. CO2 emissions have decreased by 370,000 tonnes.


Swiss Import Promotion Programme: SIPPO takes off in 2018

The Swiss Import Promotion Programme (SIPPO) is the trade promotion programme of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Swisscontact has been implementing the programme since April 2017. The Managing Director of the “Handel Schweiz” Swiss trade Association gives his assessment.


Modernisation of the Sahelian agricultural economy generates new jobs

With its dry climate, low development indices, and high youth unemployment, the West African country Niger faces numerous challenges. With “Site Intégré de Formation Agricole” (SIFA –Integrated Agricultural Training Site), Swisscontact has developed an innovative concept, which is now playing a key role in the development of agricultural vocational education in the Sahel. It is helping to create jobs and open career opportunities, thus helping stabilise the region.


Phase Two of the Swisscontact Project in Kosovo that Supports Employment in Private Sector Officially Launched


The Promoting Private Sector Employment project of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation organized today the ceremony marking the beginning of a four-year phase II of the project until November 2021.

Strengthing sustainable Patouchli Oil Production in Indonesia


To strengthen the sustainable patchouli oil production in Sulawesi, Indonesia, a new Swisscontact project is launched in cooperation with the Givaudan Foundation, which also funded this project.


New initiative launched in Lao PDR to support hospitality skills at the base of the pyramid


Swisscontact convened a meeting of representatives from nine provinces across southern and central Lao PDR to launch the Pheun Than Heng A Sip (PTHAS) Training Programme in Vientiane Capital. Over the next four years, the programme will upskill existing employees and support people from disadvantaged backgrounds to secure employment in the tourism and hospitality sector.


Locals Making Reconstruction a Medium for Employment


Since the end of the war in 2006 Nepal is going through a challenging peace-making and civil reconstruction process. A severe earthquake in 2015 threw the country back again. The Skills for Safe Reconstruction Project (SSRP), implemented by Swisscontact with Swiss Solidarity as project Partner is collaborating with this project to mitigate the risks and dangers from future earthquakes in Nepal.


Senior Expert Corps programme launches its own website

Until recently the Senior Expert Corps (SEC) was part of the Swisscontact website Since 1979 the SEC has been implementing short-term consulting services in developing countries and Eastern Europe, conducted on a volunteer basis by retired Swiss experts. The content, processes, experience, and insights gained have now been given their own virtual space: on December 20, 2017 the website was launched.
