Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for Learners from Hospitality Courses held in Mandalay and Bagan

The Hotel Training Initiative, one of the components of the Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP) is implementing three batches of hospitality courses in cooperation with selected partner hotels in Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Bagan and Mandalay in 2017. After completion of two batches, Swisscontact organised a Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for Learners in Mandalay on 25 August 2017 and Bagan on 27 August 2017 respectively. The objective of these events is to build a bridge between the graduates and hospitality-related businesses and the job market in the hospitality industry. More than 350 graduates attended the event in each location.

Forum on Sustainability in Tourism and Hospitality in Myanmar

Sustainable tourism is a driver for job creation and provides long-term benefits to both the private sector and local communities. This year has been declared the “International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development” by the United Nations and it is therefore the right time to raise further awareness of this important issue in Myanmar, where tourism is growing at a very fast pace. In this context, Swisscontact, the Myanmar Responsible Tourism Institute (MRTI) and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GTSC) are jointly organising the first-ever “Forum on Sustainability in Tourism and Hospitality in Myanmar” at Novotel Yangon Max on the 29th and 30th of March 2017.

Local Vocational Training: Once more many young people from Mon and Kayin States completed their vocational training

On 22 July 2016, 465 Learners successfully completed their Local Vocational Training (LVT) in 10 different townships throughout Mon and Kayin states. State Ministers, officials from the Department of Labour and concerned authorities from District and Township Administration Offices were present at the closing events and handed over the certificates to the proud course graduates.

The Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for the Learners from the Second intake of Hospitality Course

The Swiss Government-funded Vocational Skills Development Program finished its second intake of Hospitality Courses with a Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for the graduated Learners at Kempinski Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 29 August 2015. The 7-week hospitality courses were held from 13 July to 28 August at partner hotels in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. Over 300 Learners and line staff in Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon successfully completed the training and received completion certificates.

Handing Over Ceremony of the “Equipment for the Conference Room of National Skills Standards Authority”

The Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP), implemented in Myanmar by Swisscontact, and funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), has handed over “Equipment for the conference room of the National Skills Standards Authority (NSSA)” to the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLES). This equipment and furniture will be used to facilitate and organize NSSA-related meetings, workshops and official events, including skills testing (oral tests and written occupational competency tests).

The Hotel Training Initiative: Hospitality Courses start in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw

The opening ceremony of the first Hospitality Course for Learners was held at Sky Palace Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 11 May 2015 with the presence of His Excellency Dr. Tin Shwe, Deputy Union Minister for Ministry of Hotels and Tourism, a representative from the Embassy of Switzerland in Myanmar as well as relevant Swisscontact staff. Nearly one hundred Learners were also present as well as General Managers of the partner hotels where the training will take place.

The Graduation Ceremony and Job Fair for the Learners from the First Hospitality Course

The Swiss-funded Vocational Skills Development Program finished its first Hospitality Courses with Graduation Ceremonies at the Sky Palace Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 June and at the Sule Shangri-La Hotel, Yangon on 27 June 2015. The courses were held from 11 May to 26 June at partner hotels in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw. Nearly 400 graduates successfully completed the seven weeks training and received certificates at the events.

Switzerland promotes local vocational training in Kayin and Mon States

The partnership between Switzerland and Myanmar covers four important areas, 1) employment and skills development, 2) agriculture, 3) health, social infrastructure and local governance and 4) the promotion of peace and democratisation. Within its strategy , the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) is financing the Vocational Skills Development Program (VSDP).
